At their March Board Meeting, the Friends of the
Fremont Area District Library approved funding of a Wish List presented by
the staff of the Library for new books and programming at the library.
The Wish List included various children’s programs, such as
Make-N-Take Craft Days, Story Time Crafts, an American Girl Party, a New
Year’s Eve Party and the Library Spring Safari. It also included funds for
Graphic Novels and programming for the teens. Areas of the adult collection
to be updated with this money are health, computers, sports, parenting and
science as well as mysteries and science fiction. The Friends also funded the three summer reading programs- the
children’s, teen’s and adult’s programs- at the library.
These funds will provide prizes for the participating readers as well
as advertising and decorations.
In addition to these generous donations, the Friends
also gave discretionary funds to the Fremont Area District Library of $3000
to be used to purchase additional circulating materials for the library’s
collections.
“We are so grateful for all the work that the Friends
do for the library and this donation makes so many of our wishes possible,”
said interim director Esther Jiran. “The additional funding was more than
we ever dreamed.”
The Friends are able to provide these funds to the
library through faithful support by their members, sales at the Friends gift
shop in the library as well as funds earned at the annual Book Sale during
the Baby Food Festival.
Besides funding Wish Lists and the Summer Reading
Programs, the Friends also provide refreshments at library events, such as
Writers Live, and coordinate displays in the display cases at the library.
